11 Perfect Places for University District All-Nighters

Named after the nearby University of Washington, the University District has become the city’s epicenter for learning, shopping, and healthcare; and rightfully so for the aforementioned university, the University Village Shopping Center, and both the Seattle Children’s Hospital and UW Medical Care facilities.

Because of its proximity to UW, many surrounding eateries have adapted their hours to fit the typical college-aged person’s lifestyle: late-night food runs and all-nighters.

Some local bars, pubs, and taverns, include:

Many of these places stay open until 2am, with an open kitchen until close. Outside of bars, which there are many, there are only a handful of restaurants that stay up past midnight and into the one or two-ante-merideim time frame.

Memo’s Mexican Food Restaurant is located right on University Way NE and is open 24-hours per day to ensure your Spanish-styled cravings are always met. Open since 2008, they use all-natural ingredients to create their foods and secret recipes “for your dining delight.”

If you’re feeling Mediterranean, you could try the Shawarma King’s Grill. Located right off University Way, it’s conveniently located for your late-night food runs or hungry cram sessions.

The Café on the Ave remains a student hangout stop because of their casual atmosphere and fun crowd of patrons and employees, alike. Its location is easily accessible by public transportation, though parking may be difficult to come by – like many places in the University District. Their menu comprises the usual American diner food, including salads, sandwiches, and burgers.

Speaking of burgers, the Burger and Kabob Hut stays open until 3am Sunday through Thursday, and 4am Friday and Saturday. They offer burgers, delicious kabobs, and fries on the side and amazing shakes for your late-night foodie sessions – and keep in the mind, they have the “usual” burgers, but also chicken masala and the paneer masala burgers, which are a great way to try something outside of the box!

The last “food” place on our list is the Ichiro Teriyaki Restaurant, which offers a menu comprising various Japanese cuisine. They’re open seven days per week until 1 am, so you’ve got plenty of time to include your udon, sukiyaki, poke, katsu, and teriyaki cravings.

The last place on our list is open until midnight Sunday through Thursday, and until 1am Friday and Saturday – and that place is Oasis Tea Zone. Though they do have food, their menu is limited and only consists of snacks such as crispy or steamed tofu, popcorn chicken, and gyoza. Their “main” attraction is their extensive bubble tea menu, which include both dairy and non-dairy versions!

And if all these fail you or just aren’t the type of atmosphere you’re looking for, the University Village Starbucks is open until 1am Sunday through Thursday, and until 2am on Friday and Saturdays – and though that may not be the all-nighter you require, it’s enough to get you jazzed up on coffee or tea for your walk and continued studying home.

You’ll find many places on The Ave that stay up till late, meaning eleven-post-merideim to midnight, but these are some of the fewer favorites that stay up until the wee-hours.

The University District is brimming with life at all hours of the night, which can be a bad thing, but it can also help us be very productive. What are your favorite all-nighter places in Seattle?
