When construction began on the East Link light rail, the I-90 express lanes permanently closed to allow for ongoing construction. This closure involved other changes, including a reversible ramp closure at 77th Ave SE and the westbound on-ramp at Island Crest Way is now restricted to HOVs only – and the City of Mercer Island is committed to helping its citizens shorten their commute times and offer alternatives to single-occupancy vehicle travel.
While we’re all waiting with anticipation for the Mercer Island light rail station to take shape and open, the city is exploring other options for its residents.
In their latest newsletter, they’ve announced a series for forthcoming surveys to help the city gather information about travel preferences and public willingness to use alternative modes of transportation. This month’s survey considers a pilot program partnering with well-known rideshare services, such as Lyft or Uber, which would help commuters access the Mercer Island Park-and-Ride without driving.
Stay tuned or sign up for the city’s newsletter for more information about upcoming surveys!
