It’s that time of the year, the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is here! Known as a destination event for the Pacific Northwest, this festival will be held until April 30th.
In 1984, The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival was officially inaugurated by the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce. It was recognized by the Chamber directors that thousands of people from all over were coming to visit the town to view the tulips. To enhance the visitor’s trip, events and activities were included in the seasonal festival. It was not until 1994 that the Tulip Festival became an entity of its own. Over time, the festival gradually became a longer event starting with three days, to ten days and so on, it has now been a 30-day festival for the past several years.
The Skagit Valley Festival celebrates the millions of blooming tulips scattered throughout the Skagit Valley. The tulip fields are the harvests of Tulip Town and Roozen Gaarde. Aside from showcasing the tulips, the Skagit Valley is proud to present their growers, local attractions and agriculture. Through the month of April, you will find a wide range of events including the Anacortes Quilt Walk, Downtown Mount Vernon Street Fair, Tulip Country Bike Tours and the Kiwanis Salmon Barbecue. To best plan your trip, you can view the complete event schedule. Though the suggested way to visit the festival is by motorized vehicle, you can travel the tulip fields by foot or bicycle, you will just want to prepare for the weather conditions! As another option, there are several guided tours offered that will allow you to relax and take photographs as you please.
While visiting, you may want to enjoy dining at the local eateries such as La Conner Seafood & Prime Rib House, Farmhouse Restaurant, C-Square and Third Street Café or Chuckanut Manor Seafood and Grill. You also won’t be leaving the festival empty handed! There will be a wide variety of tulip merchandise including jewelry, clothing, stationery, and home décor items!
Whether you visit for a day or a longer stay, you will be sure to find events and activities for the whole family, all while enjoying Mother Nature’s beauty!
