Historically called “chophouses,” the modern-day steakhouse started in London in the 1690s and strictly served individual portions of meat; and only recently began offering other cuts of meat including poultry, prime rib, veal, fish, and seafoods. Our “version” of American steakhouses started in the late 19th century and have flourished ever since as a true American staple.
These seven (plus bonus) steakhouses are all well-regarded in the Seattle area, with some having national appraise.
Seattle’s Metropolitan Grill has been consistently voted the “best steak in town”. Each cut is individually selected and custom dry-aged with their own special blend of seasoning to ensure the most tender and flavorful meal. Located under their signature green awning, their classic-steakhouse vibe is reminiscent of their English equivalent.
Across from Denny Park in South Lake Union (SLU), the Butcher’s Block maintains their case with Mishima Reserve Wagyu beef. As part of Kurt Beecher’s eatery empire, this steakhouse offers fully authentic, full-bodied and flavorful foods, free of preservatives and anything artificial.
Premium meats, sourced from well-managed, small-scale farms and ranches, is what you’ll find at Flintcreek Cattle in Seattle’s Phinney Ridge neighborhood. Inspired by the free-roaming cattle ranges in the golden hills of Western Montana, their two-person founders team perfectly executed their passion with creativity and a lot of hard work and have produced one of the “the beast restaurants locally and across the country.”
A true Northwest Steakhouse Legacy, at El Gaucho, they offer unparalleled service coupled with carefully and thoughtfully executed nutrition creations. There are a handful of locations in the Greater Seattle and Portland areas, but all offer the same exquisite experience of exceptionality and impeccable service.
Another well-respected steakhouse can be found in Seattle’s Central Business District. The Capital Grille offers a special place for special occasions – and it often requires reservations. Their menu is in classic American style, with other options including swordfish, tuna, salmon, and lobster.
Another nighttime-only affair, Seven Beef features grass-fed and finished dry-aged Washington beef from Rochester. Standard cuts include Cote de Boeuf, Porterhouse, New York, Rib Eye, and T-Bones, but they also offer specialty cuts including Oyster, Zabuton, and Belly Steaks, among others. Each cut is in-house by their butcher and seared on their wood-fired grill to perfection.
Asadero isn’t your normal steakhouse. This Mexican steakhouse is known for their high-quality, mesquite-grilled meats similar to ones you’d find in Northern Mexico. This Seattle location offers an expanded menu compared to their Kent predecessor, and includes Prime beef cuts with American and Japanese Wagyu.
Our last bonus steakhouse is in Renton, Washington – about twenty minutes outside Seattle. Consistently regarded for their great fare, the Melrose Grill has received several accolades from the Seattle Times, the Tacoma News Tribune, and the Seattle Weekly.
