Take A Survey to Help the City of Mercer Island Gauge Community Support for Local Bikeshare Program

Related to a blog we posted earlier this year, Mercer Island continues to tackle island mobility head-on – and their latest survey is already underway. As many of us commuters have experienced, I-90 has consistent traffic in the mornings and evenings in both directions and the Mercer Island Park and Ride is full – often before peak hours.

As per another survey from the beginning of this year, the City of Mercer Island launched a Ride Share Pilot Program in partnership with Lyft and Uber, allowing residents to lock in discounted car rides to the Mercer Island Park & Ride for weekday bus commuters. This helps with the aforementioned fullness of the Park & Ride parking garage.

All the details on the City’s weekday rideshare program can be found here but highlights discounted rates and 24 hours service from Monday through Friday.

For over a year, Mercer Island has been researching and exploring various options for Islanders to help ease their daily commutes. Not only can this help in the short term, since the middle express lanes have been reallocated for the Light Rail, but also in the long term for both bridge commuters and Islanders looking to get around the Town Center.

This time around, the City of Mercer Island is gauging interest in a free-floating Bikeshare service, similar to those in Seattle, Bellevue and other surrounding communities. The bike-fleet would likely be a mix of pedal-powered and electric-powered cycles. While many have expressed interest, many have also expressed hesitation, and that’s where the City needs your input. Fill out the survey to let them know your thoughts.

The current Park & Ride is serviced by express and local busses, but with light rail completed (est. 2023), the Park & Ride will also serve the Mercer Island Light Rail Station.
