It is just about that time of the year again; the Blue Angels are coming to town! The Blue Angels will be in the Seattle area Thursday, August 2nd through Sunday, August 5th. Though Seafair weekend brings the Blue Angels and excitement, this weekend will also bring road closures. The road closures on I-90 are to keep the public and pilots safe during practices and performances and to minimize distractions. We have all the information you need to avoid the road closures and to help you enjoy Seafair weekend!
The mainlines of I-90 will be closed between I-5 in Seattle and Island Crest Way on Mercer Island. On Thursday, August 2nd, the roads will be closed from 9:45am to 12:15pm and 1:00pm to 2:45pm. This is the day that the Blue Angels will be practicing! For the performances, the mainlines of I-90 will be closed Friday, August 3rd through Sunday, August 5th, 12:55pm to 2:45pm.
Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to access the bridge highrises but will not be able to travel beyond up to 30 minutes prior to the scheduled closure times. If a resident on Mercer Island, drivers can follow signs for detour routes.
Several I-90 and I-5 ramps will close 30 minutes to one hour before practice and Seafair performances. For a complete list of ramps and closure times, please visit here.
Though there will be closures on I-90, the SR 520 floating bridge will remain open to traffic all weekend and tolls will be collected according to the rate schedule. However, heavy traffic and significant delays should be expected!
We hope you can plan accordingly to avoid road closures and traffic delays. For more information, please visit Seafair.com. We are wishing you a fun, safe and cool Seafair weekend!
