Come celebrate the 79th Annual Derby Days in Redmond, this weekend! Redmond’s favorite summer festival features the world’s longest-running bike criterium race, a carnival, parades, live music, contests, games, delicious food and more! This is a fun-filled weekend for you and the whole family.
The bicycle criterium is a multi-lap race on a closed course. The laps are generally shorter than one mile and this style of racing focuses on speed and bike handling. The bicycle criterium will take place Saturday, July 13th from 3:30pm-8:30pm. You can register online today for a reduced fee or day-of at full price. There is also a youth criterium that will take place at 12:45pm and will allow participants to race 1-2 laps around one square block. The participants will be divided into groups by age. This event is recommended for ages 5-14.
The Kids’ Parade will take place Saturday, July 13th at 10:00am, with the Grand Parade following immediately at 11:00am. The parade route will begin at the intersection of NE 83rd Street and 161st Avenue NE. It will travel north and take a left on NE 85th Street and will end at 158th Avenue NE. You and your family are more than welcome to watch the parade anywhere along the parade route!
Before the parades begin, you can join in on a breakfast at Redmond Fire Station 11. Fill up on a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee and orange juice. Children can tour the fire trucks, spray water on a mock fire and even try on real firefighter gear! The breakfast will run from 8:00am-12:00pm. Though there is no cost for breakfast, there is a suggested donation of $5 per person. All proceeds will go towards the Redmond Fire Department Benevolent Fund.
Don’t miss the Northwest Carnival for the best rides! The Main Carnival will be open Friday, from 4:00pm-11:00pm and the Ferris Wheel will be open 8:00pm-10:00pm. On Saturday, the Main Carnival will be open from 10:00am-11:00pm and the Ferris Wheel and Carousel will be open from 10:00am-10:00pm. Tickets will cost $4 each or 5 tickets for $18. Each ride takes 1 ticket per person, per ride.
The Derby Days Beer and Wine Garden will offer local wines, beers, ciders and bites. Play life-sized Jenga, checkers and trivia all while listening to live music. Sample bites from over a dozen different food vendors, including Redmond’s Bar and Grill, New Orleans Beignets, Pompeii Wood Fired Pizza, Shishkaberry’s, Panda Dim Sum and more! The garden hours will be open on Friday from 4:00pm-10:00pm and Saturday, 11:00am-10:00pm.
The Derby Days festival will end with a colorful firework show on Saturday at 10:00pm. This is a fun-filled weekend for you and the whole family, that you won’t want to miss!
