Nestled on Ballard’s Puget Sound shores, Golden Gardens Park is a mecca of summer fun. There’s always something fun going on – whether it’s sand volleyball, fishing from the pier, a boat launching into chilly Pacific Northwest waters, or a bonfire glowing in the night.
A paved path offers shoreline strolls along 300 feet of rugged coastline, while forested trails offer hiking opportunities. The park is also home to an off-leash dog area, though it’s up and away from the water, covered by mature trees.
Golden Gardens Park
Golden Gardens is a highly regarded park in Seattle, and if favored to many other, larger parks for its beautiful views and distinct amenities. Features of this park, include an off-leash dog park (dogs must be leashed outside of this park), bonfire pits, fishing, grills, hand-carry boat launches, motorized boat launches, picnic tables, play area, art, hiking opportunities, beach volleyball, and beautiful Seattle-style views.
Beach Bonfire Pits Available
Just like at Alki Beach, Golden Gardens has campfires available for use. Bonfires have been a staple in the Seattle area in days of old, and they’ve been enjoyed for decades on city beaches (and since forever by family and friends)!
Though there are firepits available, they often get snatched up early, so plan out your day to ensure you can grab one of these first come, first serve firepits. Please note, bonfires are strictly allowed in the designated firepits and you must bring clean firewood to burn. And be sure to douse the coals before you leave!
The firepits are unlocked at 4pm daily and must be doused around 10:30 to ensure they’re completely extinguished by the time the park closes.
Volleyball Court Use at Golden Gardens Park
Golden Gardens Park offers 5 beach volleyball courts, but only one is setup for a free drop-in play and is on a first come, first serve basis. The other 4 courts must be reserved by calling the volleyball scheduling office at 206-684-4062 and reserving your desired date.
Keep in mind, court use during the peak summer season can get booked out, so reserve in advance if you’re planning a summer bash!
Golden Gardens Off-Leash Dog Park
This small, but mighty 1-acre dog park is situated just up from the waterfront Golden Gardens Park and is a popular destination for north end dogs. It’s a wide-open, oval-shaped area with wood chips for playing and running. Tables, benches, and a small covered area is a great sanctuary for rainy days.
