While you may be limiting your trips to the grocery store, you can use delivery services such as DoorDash, Postmates, Grubbub, Uber Eats and Instacart to receive groceries or meals. In order to stay as safe as possible, many food delivery services are encouraging customers to take advantage of the drop-off instructions to minimize the chance of spreading the virus. With drop-off instructions, you can tell the driver to leave your items at the door or specify the delivery arrangements. To reassure consumers, several of the delivery services are posting on their websites what they are currently doing to minimize infection, such as distributing hand sanitizer and gloves to their drivers.
As a reminder, it is always important to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds and to avoid touching your face after bringing your food or grocery deliver inside. According to the CDC and the FDA, there is currently no evidence that COVID-19 can be transmitted through food or food packaging, however, germs can live on surfaces up to nine days. A few additional tips include throwing out the takeout container, using your own plate or container and washing your hands before eating. Also, be sure to recycle the bags the food comes in and disinfect your tables and counters before and after eating your meals.
